Parks & Preserves

All Lancaster County parks have hiking trails and parking lots. Central, D.F. Buchmiller and Chickies Rock parks have pavilions, picnic areas and ball fields. Central and D.F. Buchmiller parks have tennis courts. Central Park has an Environmental Center and library, The Garden of Five Senses and the county pool. There are two overlooks at Chickies Rock Park offering incredible vistas of the Susquehanna River and one at Money Rocks Park that views the Twin Valleys of eastern Lancaster County. more >

 

Water Activities

The Susquehanna River is an excellent spot for fishing, canoeing, kayaking and boating. You'll want to explore the river's quiet beauty, learn about her resources and the history and culture of our river towns from a series of riverside interpretive panels. Scattered along a 53-mile span from the Mason-Dixon Line to Harrisburg, the Susquehanna Water Trail has placed these panels to allow visitors to better understand the natural, cultural or historic events and resources of the river. more >

Birding

Lancaster County Pennsylvania is home to several locations to view bald eagles, including Brunner Island (on the west bank of the Susquehanna River about 15 miles downstream from Harrisburg) and Holtwood. The Holtwood Environmental Preserve, located on both shores of the lower Susquehanna in Lancaster and York Counties, provides more than 5,000 acres of lakeside recreational opportunities and facilities for camping, hiking, picnicking, boating, sightseeing, fishing and hunting. more >
