Environmental justice embodies the principles that no community or population should be disproportionally exposed to adverse environmental impacts. Historically, minority and low-income Pennsylvanians have been forced to bear a disproportionate share of adverse environmental impacts. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (PADEP) Office of Environmental Justice was established with the primary goal of increasing community environmental awareness and involvement in the decision-making process that affects their environment. John Brakeall will discuss the history of environmental justice in the nation and in Pennsylvania and steps the PADEP is taking to address environmental justice concerns. Call (717) 295-2055 to register by noon on Friday, January 19. Free with donations accepted for our ongoing Environmental Education programs.
