With the growth of the local food movement and the expansion of produce farming here in Lancaster County, there is a growing industry for the manufacture of field equipment designed for draft horses or small tractors. Join a "behind the scenes" look at the old and learn about contemporary models currently being manufactured here in Lancaster County. Dale Stoltzfus, from the Community of Oasis at Bird in Hand and the marketing manager for Horse Progress Days, will join Joe Schott, farm and garden manager here at Landis Valley, for an afternoon presentation and tour of the Farm machinery and Tool Barn, bringing the old alongside the contemporary. The innovation of past centuries is still the basis for present day manufacturing. Learn how the left-turning plow in the 1700's changed farming practice and take a look at new models being used by produce farmers today.
