All of Denise's workshops begin with an introduction to Pennsylvania redware, including a demonstration using a rolling pin, circle cutter and mold to create a plate; and the two decorating techniques, sgraffito and slip-trailing, used by the 17th through 19th century Pennsylvania German potters. She has books for ideas or you may bring your own; she has all the tools required to complete your designs. No prior experience is required. Denise Wilz has been creating Pennsylvania redware since 2002. She has a degree in Studio Art from Moravian College and was a computer programmer and craft hobbyist prior to embarking on a career as a potter. She is a Master Artisan in the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and is the current president of its Lehigh Valley chapter. She has been included in the 2017 Directory of Traditional American Crafts presented by Early American Life magazine; her work was featured in the Christmas issues of 2006 and 2007.
