The Underground Railroad Center at Historic Zercher's Hotel is the first free, publicly accessible visitor's center in Lancaster County. Set in Christiana, one of Lancaster County's lovely small villages, you are able to take a step back in time by absorbing the local rural area and wonderful architecture of the past centuries. The authenticated anti-slavery movement of the local people is documented in the artifacts, maps and educational depictions presented in the center.
In addition, 24 of the Underground Railroad Station Masters' homesteads are able to be viewed on a drive by tour. Also, several churches, cemeteries and some private buildings are noted on the tour as hving played roles in this local anti-slavery movement in the early to mid 19th century. Lancaster County is an unforgettable visit; most return year after year, decade after decade. We look forward to seeing you establish this tradition.
