The Past

The Star Barn has been part of the Central Pennsylvania landscape since 1877. The majestic three-level Pennsylvania open forebay bank barn and its associated structures: Carriage House, Corn Crib, Hog Barn and Chicken Coop were designed in the Gothic Revival architectural style by Daniel Reichert, architect, and built by John Z. Grove & Son, contractors, for Colonel John Motter. Colonel Motter raised prize horses, sold thousands of mounts to the U.S. Cavalry, was a successful banker, and had large agricultural interests. On July 27, 2000, the complex was entered in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Present

On October 10, 2014, David and Tierney Abel, owners of DAS Companies, Inc. acquired The Star Barn. With an eye on detail, the structures have been carefully dismantled and moved to Stone Gables Estate in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania where the plans are to restore them to their authentic late nineteenth century appearance. The complete Star Barn Village is being masterfully rebuilt using local master craftsmen with expertise in the art of period restoration. Each building will be built and showcased back to its 1800's glory allowing it to retain the distinction of being one of the most recognizable barns in the country.

The Future

The Grand Opening will be July 2018. At completion, The Star Barn Village will serve as a one of a kind premier event location for Central PA. The surrounding farmland will be used to showcase Vintage Pennsylvania Agriculture during Heritage Days where you will come to experience the complete Star Barn Village.

Stay tuned for announcements of the Grand Opening in July 2018.
