Amish mud sales and a Forbes 2018 “coolest” visit, all in one place – Lancaster, PA
Where can you play in the mud and still be cool? Only in Lancaster, PA – home to its truly unique Amish mud sales, yet also newly-recognized by Forbes as one of top 10 coolest places to visit in 2018.
The area’s mud sale season is in full swing now through late April, with a few in May and June.
Named for the condition of the thawing ground in late winter / early spring, these community auctions are held on Saturdays in small towns all over the county (typically 8am-2pm) and benefit local fire companies.
You can’t get more “Lancaster authentic” than these gatherings, as they provide a wonderful opportunity to mingle with our Amish neighbors while they help to run the sales or enjoy a fun day themselves, full of great deals and PA Dutch eats.
Attendees can buy everything there, including the kitchen sink, and all of it sold at up to six simultaneous auctions at various locations ‘round the grounds and firehouse, which makes for a truly captivating experience (SHORT VIDEO).
And you can check out one of this year’s coolest destinations to visit at the same time, according to Forbes, as their recent Top 10 list is just one more example of how the evolution in Lancaster’s tourism brand continues to gain notice.
Keeping company with such hot destinations as Savannah, San Antonio, Philadelphia, and Portland, Maine, this latest accolade is part of increasing public recognition of all the many things there are now to see and do in the Lancaster area.
“More and more travelers are starting to realize that today’s Lancaster includes not only Amish countryside, Pennsylvania Dutch dining, and outlets, but also walkable towns, hip arts and entertainment, family attractions, varied dining and shopping experiences, outdoor recreation, and exceptional lodging,” noted Discover Lancaster President Kathleen Frankford.
