Event Details

May 19

"The smallest fragments can tell as much as a larger story." - E. Wingfield.

Dan Snyder, a long-time docent at the Manheim Historical Society, is sharing another facet of his love of history, notably Henry William Stiegel, the iron master. Dan will present "Stiegel's Iron: The Archaeology of Elizabeth Furnace" at 2 pm, which is about his 19-year odyssey discovering artifacts at Stiegel's Elizabeth Furnace near Brickerville, PA. Join us for refreshments as we celebrate Stiegel's 295th birthday on May 19th at the Manheim Railroad Station from 1-4 pm. Visit the museums which include ironwork stove plates, Stiegel-type glass, Stiegel's original indentures (deeds) for "Lots" of land for establishing the town of Manheim and much more. Bring your family to ride the 19th- century trolley (weather permitting) and visit the Model Train Museum. Explore the 1881 railroad station, featuring separate men's and women's waiting rooms.
