In 1170 at age 14, Marie Antoinette left her home in Austria to become married to the future king of France. Initially, most French people adored her, but by the time of the French Revolution in 1789 she was widely hated. What can her life tell us about the responsibilities and perils of queenship in a time of rapid historical change? Dr. Bossenga is a Scholar-in-Residence at Elizabethtown College and holds a doctorate in European History from the University of Michigan.
