Latest “Power of Tourism” report provides 2014 economic impact stats


(Lancaster, Pa.) Figures from Discover Lancaster’s annual report on tourism’s local economic impact show an industry that is a major financial driver in the area.

Commissioned from the respected analysis firm of Tourism Economics, the highlights include:

-- An estimated 8.15 million visitors to Lancaster County directly spent $1.92 billion in 2014, creating a total tourism impact of $2.56 billion in the county.

-- This visitor spending supported nearly 23,660 county jobs, including approximately 15,730 direct tourism industry jobs, which makes tourism the fifth largest non-agriculture private sector employer in the county, accounting for 1 of every 15 such jobs.

-- State and local tax revenue generated by the tourism industry saves each Lancaster County household an estimated $972 annually in such taxes.
